A visit to enchanting Yvoire

Yvoire is a quaint medieval village, known for its flowers, that sits on Lake Geneva and is actually in France!

I was divided between visiting Yvoire or Annecy since I couldn’t do both places due to time constraints. In the end I chose Yvoire which was easier to get to from Geneva and free for me (the Lake Geneva boat ride was covered by my Swiss Pass).

This little place has won the honour of being named among the most beautiful villages in France and it definitely lives up to its title. Also, those who live there keep the place immaculately cleaned and picture perfect. The village was built during the 14th century and has remained untouched by ‘concrete ‘ modernity.

Beautiful Yvoire

Unfortunately, time again was not on my side and my visit ended up being a stroll. By the time I got there one the most popular attractions was already closed; The Garden of Five Senses but the village itself is an attraction and unique experience. There is even a Chateau! I wonder if all french villages have their own châteaux.

Yvoire has a fairy-tale quality about it: wooden houses with flower boxes hanging on the windows, narrow cobblestone streets, stone buildings that make you feel like you have gone back in time to some olden, golden period and a beautiful lake to sit by and ponder.
