Beautiful flowers with a view at the Schynige Platte
The Schynige Platte in the Bernese Highlands offers the unique experience of being in an alpine garden with magnificent views all around. Most of the plants I had never seen before and don’t ask me what they were…I enjoyed the experience without becoming curious about the names of plants (not the gardening sort of person).
The train was terribly cute and vintage looking and the ride up the mountain was breathtaking. I actually enjoyed this experience more than the Mount Rigi excursion and best of all it was covered entirely by my Swiss pass but from this year (2019) it’s not fully covered. However, there is a big discount: you get 50% with the pass from Wilderswil to the Schynige Platte and the ride to Wilderswil is free.
While on this mountain I experienced vertigo and had to get down on all fours especially since there aren’t rails on mountains in Switzerland! The only comforting thought was that being a foreigner if strangers saw me then they were never going to see me again and probably would put it down to some cultural peculiarity or individual eccentricity! And one of the things I love about this country is the lack of crowds and feelings of being suffocated when compared to such destinations like France and Spain.
